Mother Earth
(This is the poem composed by
our friend Ken Digby from Weymouth Bay Methodist Church and is reproduced with his permission)
From the depths of the oceans to mountain heights
The beauty of nature is around
You can feel the energy and see the sights
You can hear the majestic bird sound
In Massai Mara, it’s teeming with life
In seas the dolphins and whales roam
This world is wonderful
That beautiful place we call home
There can be prosperity and peace
From the north to the south and the west to the east
There is unity and love
But still in sadness we look above
For guidance and assistance, we need it now
The planet is dying, and we know how
Global emissions are choking Mother Earth
And polluting the skies
And unless we act, with all our worth, Mother earth dies
We can save the world but we must act now
We can save the world- but we must begin now
We can all play our part together we have the power
So remember the beauty of our planet
Know we are blessed – and that now is the time
To put ourselves to the test and
Know we are lucky to live right here
You only have to look around to see
Nature is beauty, it has always been so
Dwellers of planet earth we will always be
So cast your thoughts to the wandering bird
As it soars on wing up high
Riding the wind, the mighty wind
Up where clouds drift by
From way up there the view is beyond belief
And you can see far and wide
The valleys and the seas
Where lay the multicoloured coral reefs
The intensity of the jungles is amazing
Where the tigers prowl
All kinds of life are there
The snakes, trees and the African Owl
In the Sahara Desert even Life still survives
Like the sidewinder gliding
And the scorpion hunting as the night moon arrives
All this beauty exists
But we must fight to keep it
So, believe in yourself, we can heal the world
So keep the cause and teach it
People of the world need to reduce their waste
And recycle everything they can
Make the most of your energy people
Waste less when you can
When I say people, that means us all
Every race, colour, religion and creed
Musicians, Bohemians, philosophers and doctors
The rich and the powerful, and those in need
Together we can achieve a brighter day
We have the knowledge, and we know the way
So let’s wipe away Mother earths sorrow
And heal the world for a brighter tomorrow.
